When should you use PNG?

PNG is a lossless format that supports transparency, making it useful for logos, interface graphics and images that need a clear background. JPG is often more compact for photographs.

Convert a file locally

Open the JPG to PNG tool, choose your image, and select Convert image. The browser decodes the picture and exports a PNG file; the source image is not uploaded to QuickQR.

Conversion does not restore detail

Saving a JPEG as PNG does not undo compression that was already applied. It changes the file container and encoding, not the source image detail, and the resulting file can be larger.
